SIMAD University was established as an institute on November 6, 1999, beginning its operations with a strong commitment to academic excellence. A significant milestone was reached on January 20, 2011, when the Board of Trustees of the former Somali Institute of Management and Administration Development (SIMAD) approved its transformation into a full-fledged university.

Initially, the Faculty offered programs in Sociology and Psychology, which later evolved into the Faculty of Social Sciences. In 2015, in line with our continuous growth, the faculty underwent a rebranding to better represent the expanding range of disciplines and expertise offered within the faculty.

To further enrich our academic offerings, we introduced new programs. In 2013, the Bachelor of Political Science program was launched, providing an in-depth understanding of political structures and governance. In 2014, we introduced the Bachelor of Social Work program, aimed at developing professionals dedicated to improving the well-being of communities.

Our faculty continued to grow, and in 2023, we expanded our program offerings once again. Two new programs were introduced: the Bachelor of International Relations, which focuses on global diplomacy and international policies, and the Bachelor of Criminology, designed to address the need for expertise in criminal justice and law enforcement.

Today, the Faculty of Social Science is one of the largest and most influential faculties at SIMAD University, offering five key programs: Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, Social Work, and International Relations. This diverse range of programs equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to tackle the social challenges of the modern world and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
